Adult amateur orchestra concerts

Today I have managed to avoid going to yet another adult amateur orchestra concert.  I wouldn't mind going so much if the members of the amateur orchestras who play in these concerts were prepared to go to other amateur orchestra concerts to listen and be a member of the audience themselves.  Most of them don't though.  They only want to play.  I suspect that if some of them did go and listen as I have on many past occasions, they would be much less keen to inflict their own concerts on their poor family members who are expected out of loyalty to pay money to sit through them.  I always take a good book.
